What is Radon?
Radon is a cancer causing radioactive gas that is colorless, odorless and tasteless that is formed by the breakdown of uranium found in the soil, rock and ground water.

How does radon get into the home?
When Radon is released from the ground into the home, it typically moves up through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Your home traps Radon inside where it can build up to a dangerous level, over 4pCi/1 (picocurie per liter, the amount of radioactivity in a liter of a liquid substance). The national average for indoor Radon is 1.3 pCi/1, and it is recommended to mitigate over 4 pCi/1, according to the EPA.

Why test for Radon?
The EPA estimates that as many as 21,000 lung cancer deaths are caused by Radon each year. About 2,900 of these deaths are from people who never have smoked. You and your family are more likely to be exposed at home since that is where you spend the most time. Radon testing is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk.
